A FEW ANSWERS

Frequently asked questions

How are words counted?

A word is a run beginning with a Unicode letter or number, followed by letters, numbers, combining marks, or joiners. Punctuation and whitespace separate words. Hyphenated terms count as separate words.

Why are the character counts different?

Hindi matras and conjuncts often use multiple code points. Visible characters group these using Intl.Segmenter; code points count each Unicode scalar value. Spaces and line breaks are included in both totals.

How are lines counted?

An empty input has zero lines. Otherwise, each line break adds a line, including a final empty line. Windows CRLF counts as one line break. Older browsers may not support the visible-character count.
